Kitchen Curtains - Making Good Choices

Choose kitchen curtains in loosely woven fabrics that filter sunlight for a bright and cheery room during the summer. In winter, use heavy duty fabric. Note that the pattern, fiber content and weight will make a difference to the appearance, durability and light control of kitchen treatments.

Linen and polyesters stand up to uv rays better than other materials but all colors will fade. Silk is a poor choice for a kitchen curtain because it will only last a few months. Curtains that are sewn with cotton or polyester linings will last longer than unlined one. Voile sheers look good without a lining.

Kitchen window curtains that will be opened and closed regularly should be made in practical designs for simple operation. Enjoy popular tiers mounted on cafe rods along with swags that frame the view. Add a double layered valance with a rod pocket or tab tops as part of the look. Other styles are ruffles, embroidered borders, macrame trim and crocheted patterns. Use gingham, plaid or floral panels on a decorative pole and coordinate with a floor mat, kitchen chair pads or tablecloth.

There are some factors to consider when choosing the right kind of curtains. How much light comes in? Will it be blocked or filtered? Are easy care machine washable fabrics a priority? Which kitchen curtains will create the home accents you want? Are they available in the quality and prices to fit the budget?

Lace curtains will allow in sunshine while denim curtains block more of the sun. A lined swag at the top keeps the view completely open when privacy is not a factor.

For contemporary kitchen, interior design options include contrasting tie backs, carved finials and wooden or wrought iron hardware to complement your red, white, blue or black kitchen curtains.
