Creative Decorating With Cafe Curtains

Cafe curtains are easy to sew treatments ideal for the kitchen or bathroom where privacy is important. Cafe window curtains are hung from a rod, pole or curtain wire that is placed part way down the window so that light is allowed in. Spring loaded or conventional fixed rods are options and finials finish the look.

Cafe style curtains look good for small windows - use a gathered valance as a top treatment and to provide an accent to the lower tiers. Select materials that have an informal feel including lightweight cotton or polyester in checks, stripes or gingham.

Lace or traditional net fabrics also work well as they let in plenty of light. Choose vintage prints with ruffles and a coordinating border or satin ribbon embroidery panels. A shirred rod pocket cafe curtain with a header is another style option. Tailored swags and valances can be purchased ready made.

Sew rings to the upper edge of unlined curtain panels and hang on a decorative wooden pole, or make tie tab top curtains by stitching button holes and threading ribbon through the holes. Make your own cafe curtains with scallops and add a lace or fringed trim.
